On Saturday our 1st XI played Cockenach in the Junior League challenge cup final. We qualified for the final after winning the Division 1 Cambridgeshire Junior League North and we played Cockenach because they won Junior South 1.
Chippenham restricted Cockenach to 14-2 in the first 10 overs with both Sam Rodman and Charly Ratley bowling excellent opening spells. A partnership of 70 helped Cockenach regain some stability to their innings but then Sean Ward and Chop Heather took quick wickets to prevent Cockenach gaining any significant momentum. As overs began to run out Cockenach started to take chances and Ed Waites completed 2 run outs to help build the pressure. Cockenach finally finished their 40 overs on 171-8.
With Chippenham having a strong batting line up the score looked very achievable as long as they could have a sound start. And they certainly managered this with Simon Heather and Ollie Rix putting on 135 in 30 overs for the first wicket. The loss of 5 wickets in the next 7 overs created some nerves but Andy “Big Dog” Holmes hit 6 runs off his first two balls to give Chippenham victory.

Chippenham U11 reached the final of an 8 Team Tournament on Saturday 7th September at Bardwell. They lost their first game to hosts Bardwell but won their next 2 against Nowton and Rocklands.
However 3 teams in the group won twice and it went down to wickets lost- Chippenham only lost 5 wkts and ended up top of our group. In the Semi Final they beat Thetford, which set up an exciting final against Mellis.
Sadly we lost in a close finish. All the players contributed- 3 standouts were Keiran Peddretti batting and all round performances from Max Long and Jack Long.
It was a fantastic effort by the lads to reach the final so well done.
A nervous win at Witcham meant Chippenham won the League 1 North title on Saturday. Needing a win to secure top place Chippenham quickly found themselves in trouble aat 20-4. Good contributions from Ian Richardson, Sean Ward and Andy “Big Dog” Holmes helped us reach 117. However, this was a score that was never going to be easy to defend.
Charly Ratley and Sam Rodman bowled a great opening spell to reduce Witcham to 26-6 but they then rallied to 82-6. An important catch in the deep by Charly Ratley put us back in pole position but only 12 were needed when Rhys Desbourough, fielding at mid off caught the last man.
The 1st XI will now play Cockenach (winners of Div 1 South) on Saturday September 14th for the Junior League Trophy.
