Great win for Chippenham Sunday side away at Longstowe on 20 April 2014. In a rain affected game of 30 overs a side, with max. 6 overs per bowler, Chippenham won the toss and skipper for the day, Nigel Bryant elected to bat. On a tricky wicket with a very slow outfield the Chippenham batsmen struggled to make headway. Paul Mangell continued his good form with a lusty 38 before holing out to mid-wicket. New boy Henry Osbolderstone also put in a good show with a brisk 18 before falling in similar fashion. The side were bowled out in the last over for a total 115. Charlie Rattley and Sean Ward opened the bowling but at 60 for 1 off 15 overs the home side looked to be comfortable. However a mean spell of bowling from Andy ‘Big Dog’ Holmes (17 – 1 – 6) and Tim Hedger (8 – 2 – 6) strangled the opposition and Sean Ward saw CCC to victory with a nerveless last over by a margin of 3 runs.
Saturday’s game with Fordham is cancelled because Fordham were unable to raise a team.
The new season got underway last weekend. Saturday against Worlington was played on a typical cold early April day with cricket sweaters at a premium. Chippenham were give some brief hope when they took 5 wickets for just 30 more runs but it wsn’t enough to stop Worlington recording a comfortable victory.
