Junior season finishes with 3rd place in Bardwell Tournament

Honourable 3rd place in Bardwell U 11 Tournament.
Chippenham were beaten finalists in last year’s tournament but were unable to go one better in this year’s renewal despite fielding 4 of last year’s team in this 6-a-side event. In a 6 team Competition this year, Chippenham won their first 2 matches comfortably but then narrowly got beaten by Bardwell A. This was followed immediately by what effectively became the game to determine the other Finalist- agonisingly we were beaten by one run on the last ball of the match by Garboldisham, who ended up losing to Bardwell A in their qualifying match but reversed it in the Final to win the Tournament outright.
Chippenham did go on to play two more matches winning them both easily to at least send the boys home with some spring in their step and a 3rd place finish.
Chippenham arguably had the strongest all round ability team there but unfortunately it did not all quite come together in the two toughest games.
The boys all had some special moments – each one of them scored a number of boundaries with Max, Jack Rutter and Ben even managing sixes. Wickets were in abundance throughout all the games and 4 of our players were on hattrick balls during the Tournament- the two Jacks, Ben and Riley.
In the 6 matches the opposing managers gave their choices of man of the match for our team- They were split as follows- Max Weaver-2 Jack Rutter- 2 Riley Palmer-1 Ben Bromley-1 A spirit of cricket award was also voted on by the same managers in the 6 matches as follows- Riley-3 Jack R, Jack L, Jake- 1 each
All in all, the Under 11 team have had a great season and have won some silverware – 2 trophies at the Copdock Festival of Cricket – as well as finishing a clear 2nd in the West Suffolk League competition.

1st XI earn promotion again on final day of season

The league season finished on a high note with the 1st XI winning promotion for the 5th year running. In a game we had to win to be sure of promotion we batted first and struggled early on and were 87-5 at one point. However, a good partnership between Matt Siggsworth and Jimmy VDP helped us reach 213. It then turned into the Charly Ratley show who bowled brillantly to take 7-33 and Cherry Hinton were dismissed for 81. This means next season our 1st XI will play in the Senior League Div 2.

The 2nd XI season finished in a disppointing end with Burwell unable to field a team and conceding the match. This meant we finished in midtable and will play next season again in Junior league Div 4
