Simon Heather – Social events organiser

Name: Simon Heather

Club Role: Fundraising & Social events Manager.

Previously Captain of Saturday League Side (Division 2 of Senior League of Cambridgeshire league). We have been in the league for 5 years and have been promoted every year. I have now resigned the Captaincy and Oli Rix is taking over. I have recently taken over the role of Fundraising which i am yet to work out true responsibilities /accountabilities of the role!

What does this involve?

Captaincy role involved; No fixtures to organise as the League tell you who /when you will play the teams in your Division Home and Away. The biggest challenge is assembling a side every week of the right quantity and importantly the right personnel to do the job for the side and hopefully win !!

There is certain amount of administration:

You have to inform the League of the results /collect match fees and importantly  collect La Hogue’s lovely teas..

Also you have to update the Saturday  Batting and Bowling statistics to make informed decisions as a Captain.

It is a very fulfilling role when your winning !!!!

What do you do in “real life”?

I have spent my working life in Sales Management for large consumer goods companies..

How did you get involved with Chippenham Cricket Club?

I  moved into the village in August 1993 (I just missed out on being a founder member ) and  saw the guys playing and thought I can do better than that…..The rest is history   !!!

What is your first cricketing memory?

Watching Test Match Cricket on a  Black and White TV  with Peter West  introducing and Jim Laker  commentating.  I used to love  The John Player League too(40 overs on Sunday)….
